How long does it take to build a successful site?

 You know exactly what you want to achieve online so you’ve setup a website. But how much time does it actually take to build a successful website? Well, for starters, “success” could mean different things to different people and different websites.

The success of a website will depend on many factors. Some of them are: The design of your website, The competitiveness of the field your website is in, the navigability and user friendliness, amount of sticky content, how often you update your web page, amount of work you put in to maintain high rankings on search engines.

The key to building a successful website is patience and perseverance. A website is rarely a success overnight. As long as you are constantly learning from your own experiences and from those of others you have every chance of achieving success with your website.

There is always something you can do to improve your website. Many times, it’s not so much to do with your website as it is to do with circumstances around your website. Here are a few tips which could help be helpful to you :

Give your website time : We all wish our website could start delivering results from the time we upload it onto the internet, Unfortunately, things don’t happen so fast. If your website is in a exceptionally competitive field, you will have to slowly build your website, with quality content with high quality links from other sites in order to rise to a good position in the search engines. How long does this process take? If you are very efficient it could be within six months, but it could take upto a year.

Stick to the basics : Don’t ever try to fool the search engines. Build a solid web site, one that presents your goods or services in the best light, and promote it in a conventional manner through proper search engine optimization, offline promotion in your printed materials and you will be in a good position

Study and keep yourself updated : Sign up for good online newsletters, visit forums and websites where other webmasters ask
questions and offer advice. If you are in a particular niche market, see if there is a newsletter especially catering to your needs. The web is an exciting place that’s constantly changing and coming up with new and interesting things. What is hot today might not be so hot in the future, so it’s important to stay informed and updated of online trends.

Keep your website updated : Redesign your website if you have to, rewrite the copy or work on the details of optimization. This may take time or may require additional expenditure, but it could be the step that brings you to success, so don’t be afraid to  rethink or redo your website.

 Be positive and don’t give up : The internet can be a funny place, just when you think that your efforts have not produced anything, you may find your site popping up at the top of all the search engines, and orders coming into your in-box. So, hang in there and don’t give up until you have really utilized your resources properly.

If you truly have something good to offer, and if you have worked hard to promote it, the chances are that your efforts will be crowned with success sooner than you imagined.
